OUR NEW PUBLICATION!

We are pleased to announce the very first issue of "The Blue Church Bugle," Christ the King Church's community newsletter. We urge you to send your news to the editors, Bob and Nancy Murdock, at murmuse@comcast.net. A newsletter without news cannot be described as a bugle.

FAREWELL TO FATHER CHRIS

It was hard to lose Fr. Chris Lee, who died unexpectedly on September 28. He was a man of action - vital and imaginative in his activities. He was good at following through on his dreams. He inspired us to study our religion in meaningful ways, along with keeping the property in good shape.

Fr. Chris had a strong interest in music. As anyone who attended the Welsh Choir's performance would agree, this was part of his Welsh traditions. Choosing the hymns for each service was very important to Fr. Chris. He attended every CTK choir rehearsal, which made the choir feel really appreciated.

Those of us who were able to participate in the tour of Wales with friends from our Japanese sister parish will always remember the knowledgeable way Fr. Chris explained his beloved countryside. It's no easy task to keep everyone moving and excited, as well as comfortable, during a tour, especially when it rains every day. But we all really appreciated this experience.

A memorial service was held at the church on October 3, with clergy attending from all around the Diocese. The service included a stirring remembrance by Christina Lee.

THANKSGIVING AT THE CHURCH

A service at 10 AM will be shared with members of St. Mary's church. There will be a potluck Thanksgiving meal at 2 PM. Christ the King church will provide the turkey. As usual, there will be football on TV. More details will be forthcoming. Watch for the announcement in the Sunday Link.

MARYLAND #94 CURSILLO

The latest Cursillo celebration, Maryland #94, will be held at the Claggett Center on the weekend of November 1-4. June Morris, one of our choir members, is being sponsored by Virginia Mayfield and Carol Gooden. Robyn Mayfield is the head "Cha" for this event, which honors 18 candidates.

WHERE IS THE QUILT?

You may have noticed that the Christ The King Quilt is missing from the wall in Reed Hall. It has removed for cleaning, but it should be back soon. A framed copy of the label, which names each block's maker, will be on the wall by the quilt. Also, we have a copy of Carol Diggs's wonderful book about this quilt. We are looking into the best way to get copies, if anyone is interested. --Nancy & Bob

Pumpkin season

HARVEST FESTIVAL

Did you go to the CTK Harvest Festival? If not, you missed out on a fine, neighborly time. The only danger was that the baked goods table kept luring some of us to buy more, which led to eating more. The beautiful array of pumpkins helped to bring in a good profit. There were various games and art projects that were lots of fun to participate in. At lunchtime, the scent of the barbecue made hungry festival-goers drift over to get a tasty lunch. Many thanks to all who worked to make this a happy day.

DIOCESAN ASSISTANCE

The Reverend Dr. Mark Gatza, Canon for Congregational Development and Deployment, assures us that the diocese will be helping us find and install a new rector. Meanwhile, the Diocese will supply a priest to conduct each service, until we get our new rector. Dr. Gatza tells us that, since we have recently completed a full survey, we may not need to repeat that effort this time around. We look forward to working with Dr. Gatza, remembering how well he helped us in our search that resulted in the installation of Fr. Chris as our rector.
