A few years ago the church newsletter was called "The Communicator," a four to eight page document of articles, notices, and sometimes graphics. The Communicator was printed once a month in the church office in black and white, and then taken to a store like Office Depot for multiple copies, which were mailed to parishioners and CTK friends. In the summer of 2007, Fr. Chris Lee came up with the idea of a new newsletter to be named "The Blue Church Bugle." He envisioned a monthly two-page document (one sheet) with paper copies for churchgoers and mailing. Also, it would be posted on the church website and parishioners would be notified by Email that it was viewable there. Fr. Chris approved our design, and the first issue was done for November 2007. Bill Moore gave technical advice, and Dick Holmes has posted it on the ECCTK website. |
| We were fortunate to have the Rev. Barbara Seras leading our service on Thanksgiving morning. She is the rector of St. Mary's Episcopal Church on Dogwood Road. Several parishioners from St. Mary's attended. Barbara is also a member of the Transition Committee for the Diocese of Maryland, working on the election of a new bishop. The congregation was invited to stay at the church until 2 PM when dinner would be served. Lots of board games were provided, and a TV was available for the NFL football game. However, only a handful of people stayed. Dick Janes set up the TV for the NFL game, which started about 12:30. "No antenna," he said, "so the reception isn't perfect." Michael Spoden checked it out, and suggested some kind of wire for the antenna receptacle. A straightened-out paper clip did the job and the Detroit-Green Bay game came through clearly. |
| Among those who stayed after the service were the ladies who prepared the meal, and a wonderful job they did. Anna Kueberth, June Morris, and Paulette Hammond worked hard and came up with a memorable feast. Anna's son was an energetic helper. His artistic mound of mashed potato was awesome! Turkey, gravy and mashed potato were provided by the church, and several people contributed food for the meal. For vegetarians, Nancy Murdock brought cheese lasagna and green bean casseroles. Among the guests invited for the meal were Colleen McKay, who went on the Wales trip, and Joel Liebman and Kathleen Edwards, both university professors. Kay stayed at the rectory for about a year when Noreen was here. |
| If you go to the website for Christ the King Episcopal Church at http://www.ecctk.org/ you will find that webmasters Dick Holmes and Bill Moore have provided us with a wonderland of information. A few highlights are mentioned here. Dick has archived all the copies of the Sunday Link, and you can click to see any issue published since Sept. 18, 2005! There is a similar archive for the Blue Church Bugle. "Keep in touch" shows Email addresses for parishioners and friends. "Internet links" has church-related websites. Bill Moore has links related to our sister parish in "From Tokyo All Saints." There are references to all the visits here by the Japanese, and to Japan by our people. You can also find outstanding sermons by Fr. Chris and Rev. Mary Yamano. "Music 2006" offers "Prelude to a Celebration" by Dick Janes. |
