CHRISTMAS HAS COME AND GONE
By Robyn and Virginia Mayfield

Christmas now has come and gone! What seemed like an eternity getting here was over in a flash. Many good times happened—for instance……….

On December 23rd, the evening of carols, readings and supper at St. Luke’s Church, sponsored by the Woodlawn Ecumenical Ministry (WEM), was a wonderful evening of sharing with other churches in this area both in ministry and fellowship. We hope for many more occasions like this one. Many thanks to Dr. Parham and St. Luke’s for hosting the event.

Also, at the beginning of Advent, Grace Episcopal Church hosted an evening of Advent music and readings in which the choirs of the Churches in the Patapsco Valley Regional Council participated (including Christ the King’s Choir). What a wonderful way to begin the Season!

Our Choir under the leadership of Dick Janes worked hard in learning a number of new anthems. There were so many, we had to hold some for next year, so come and hear them next Christmas! In spite of some set-backs with our musical instruments, the Choir sang to the Glory of God as they always do. Many thanks for the music.

Beautiful Christmas decorations began to appear throughout Christ the King as Carol Gooden and Robyn and Virginia Mayfield spent many hours arranging them in the church, narthex and Reed Hall. Thank you, girls, for a job well done!

Father Dunning and Father Bill brought the age-old Christmas message to us. We never tire of hearing it-over and over. Thank you to the Priests.

Bea Hooper, Jane Clark, Robyn Mayfield, and Barbara Reid-Williams arranged the lovely poinsettias to complete the Christmas decorations in the Church, and Virginia Mayfield trimmed the tree. All was ready to greet our new King, a babe in a manger.

The Rev . Charles Mercer, a deacon from St. Bartholomew’s Church, our mother church, consented to do a Deacon’s Mass on Christmas Day so that those not able to attend the Christmas Eve Service could celebrate the birth of our Savior.

Both Christmas Eve Service and Christmas Day Service were a joy to all who attended. We thank everyone who participated, for making them special.

Now we look forward to the beginning of Lent (yes, it’s just around the corner). What will you be able to do in making this a special season? We need everyone’s input!

ADULT CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
By Nancy Murdock

On December 30, Father Bill asked the adult group what we wanted to do for the next round of CE. Some general responses were given, and Dick Holmes said he would like us to have a round table discussion. Any topic would be okay, but he would suggest that we not try to come up with one final answer. The point would be to say what we felt about the topic, and listen to what the others said. We decided to combine Dick's suggestion with Father Bill's offer of some interesting material from the Diocese.

Father Bill called a few days later to say he had found some materials for us to use in our discussions. So get ready to enjoy some fine discussions! We can look forward to some stimulating times.

ECUMENICAL CHURCH GATHERING
By Lolly Herbert

We attended the Ecumenical Carol Service at St. Luke's Church. It was a lovely service and then they fed us supper! And what a grand meal that was! They had made all kinds of good things to eat. It was a feast and then when we thought they could do no more, they came out with all kinds of lovely desserts. Yummy!

At the service the pastor said that we should all be able to get together and celebrate our faith. That is so, so true. We did it that night and it was wonderful. In this season when we celebrate the Prince of Peace, it is only fitting that we gather in peace. This is one way that the church or churches can be a living example to the world, not only in this joyful season but in ALLseasons.

It reminds me of a time when two little boys were having a knock-down fight right in front of my house. I went out and separated them and I ask them, "Do you want peace?" They both looked puzzled. But then they both said "Yes." And I said "Well, shake hands. Peace starts here; it begins with you." They did. I do not know whether they fought again somewhere else, but they never fought again in front of my house.

I have no way of knowing if they got the message in their hearts. But I am willing to bet that they told their friends about the weird old lady who stopped the fight.

I believe that this is the way to bring in the kingdom of peace. Each person spreads little seeds of peace whenever they have the chance. It might even (as Deacon Bruce Hanger once said) start an outbreak of peace. Wouldn't that be wonderful!
